Keyboard Lessons
How private lessons work:
For the private lessons that I teach,
I recommend starting as early as the age of
seven. Please contact me for more information

What you, or your child need to be successful in private lessons.
1. An instrument
- A. violin or viola.
If you are starting your child (or yourself)
on a violin or viola
for the first time, I recommend renting from
one of the
reputable stores in the Colorado Springs area.
Itʼs best to
wait to purchase a violin or viola until your
child will need a
full sized instrument.
- B. Keyboard or piano.
If you are purchasing a keyboard for the first
time, a 61 key
keyboard with an A/C adaptor and headphones
is
recommended. Itʼs best to avoid keyboards
with a lot of
distracting, and expensive, extra features.
2. A music book and notebook
- A. violin or viola.
I usually have younger students use Songs
for the Young
Violinist, a book and CD that Iʼve created.
Other violin/viola
books may include Orchestra Expressions, or
the Suzuki
Violin/Viola School series. Please call me
to discuss which
book(s) are best.
- B. Keyboard.
Keyboard students should use a book from the
Bastien series
of piano books. Please call me to discuss
which book is best.
- C. Notebook
I like to write down music homework in a small
spiral-bound
notebook. That way, the student, the parents,
and I can see
weekly progress.
3. Consistent lesson attendance
While we all have occasional conflicts with
scheduled
appointments, itʼs best to treat the weekly
lesson time as a
priority.
4. A good teacher
There are many good teachers in Colorado Springs.
Here
are my teaching qualifications: Beside my musical
education (see About),
I'm experienced as a professional violinist,
violist,
and vocalist. I have 35 years of teaching experience
which
includes; Suzuki violin lessons, public school
keyboard
classes for both adults and children, public
school string
classes, and private lessons. I currently teach
keyboard and
strings at Widefield Elementary school in the
Widefield School
District #3.
5. Time for home practice
While a good instrument, music book, and teacher
help the
studentʼs learning, no one succeeds in music
without
practicing at home. Each student must develops
a sense of
personal accountability for their own progress.
