Violin and Viola lessons
How private lessons work: 
Students begin the lesson by reviewing their assignments. During the course of the
lesson, I work with the student to progress
forward in their violin or viola music.
What you, or your child need to be successful in
private lessons.
1. An
instrument
A. Violin or
Viola
If you are beginning your child (or yourself) on a violin or
viola
for the first time, I recommend renting from one of the reputable
stores in the Colorado Springs area. You may consider purchasing
an
instrument after a year's time, when it's clear that your child (or
you) will continue on the instrument. The following stores provide the
best rental value:

If
you already own a violin or viola, please call Mijares Violins at
578 - 8242. They will be able to repair or restore your instrument.
2. A music book
A. Violin or Viola
I usually have beginning students
use Orchestra
Expressions or the Suzuki Violin (or
Viola) School series of music books. Sometimes students use both
books at the same time.
We'll decide together which music book is best for
you or your child's study. The following stores have string music
available:

3. Consistent lesson attendance
While all of us, especially busy families, have occasional
conflicts, try to schedule your lives so that you will avoid missed
lessons.
4.
Time for home practice
While a good instrument, music book, and teacher help the student's
learning, I feel that no one succeeds in music without doing
work at home. It's best if each student develops a sense of
personal
accountability for their own progress.

Costs and payment options:
Payment option 1- Pay $260 for fourteen 1/2 hour lessons:
With this option, pay at the first lesson by check or cash. Your
cost per lesson averages at $18.50 with this option.
Payment option 2 - Pay by the month:
With this option you pay at the first lesson of each month by check or
cash. Your cost per lesson averages at $20 with this
option.
Please note that make
up lessons will be offered if you are able to provide 24 hours
notice. Payment will be required for same day cancellations,
except in case of emergencies.
Semester I lesson days by appointment, beginning September 2008.
